Career Training Program

Not just a training ground, our groundbreaking Career Training Program was developed from the ground-up to prepare your child for life by maximizing her inborn strengths, life skills, and independence.

Our team of coaches and counselors helps students discover their strengths and passions, then places them in meaningful internships where they build skills for confident, fulfilling futures.

Support, every

step of the way

1
Counseling
We work together to uncover your child's hopes, dreams, and strengths, then discover practical career paths that match.
2
Placement
After identifying a direction, we help students take that next step—whether that's diving deeper into a field through a learning program, working with a counselor to explore options, or beginning a supported job search.
3
Coaching and prep
To ensure students feels fully prepared from their very first day, our team will prep them through every step. This includes traveling with them to their job ahead of their start-date so they feel confident with their route.
It all begins here

Beyond career training, IVDU students have ample opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our community. Whether through preparing Bikur Cholim food packages, transporting PT patients in clinical settings, or volunteering at local schools, our students gain a deep sense of purpose and experience the joy of giving back.

We’re proud to be the first NYS special education school to offer Drivers Ed. This program is spearheaded by an experienced instructor who gives comprehensive driving courses to mainstream schools throughout the state.

The ability to drive safely has gifted our students with an extra dose of confidence and an unmatched sense of independence.

Getting your child road-ready

Permit prep course

For student who need more than self-guided study, our 2-month prep course helps them pass with flying colors.

Rules of the road
NY’s 5-hour mandatory course is modified and geared to our students’ learning strengths.

10 hours behind the wheel
Students who successfully pass their permit test and rules of the road course go on to receive real-world driving instruction.

Our warehousing & retail internships with local businesses allow our active students to learn, grow, and thrive in positions where their zeal is appreciated and valued.

From stocking shelves to running deliveries, bussing tables, and even operating a forklift, our IVDU students try their hand at multiple positions where they learn to work as a team and bring concrete goals to the finish line.

Stocking up on real-world experience

Retail
IVDU students build valuable customer service skills during internships, helping shoppers, handling computer tasks, and managing inventory.

Warehousing
From unpacking and packing boxes in a busy warehouse to tracking inventory and working together as a team, these internships prepare our students for success in the workplace.

Sales & service
Our sociable students develop essential sales and customer service skills that they can apply across a wide range of industries.

At IVDU, the tech-enthusiasts learn from experienced teachers and master the programming languages for creating and designing websites. Through hands-on lessons, the boys dive into the essentials of coding, learning how websites are built from the ground up. These coding fundamentals give our students a strong foundation for careers in web development, front-end design, and tech support.

Bringing code to life

The boys first learn JavaScript, the language that makes websites interactive and engaging. This exciting introduction to coding helps students see results right from the start.

Next, students learn HTML and CSS—the fundamental tools used to build the framework and design of web pages. Our students use these languages to create clean, well-organized, and visually appealing websites.

Building Real-world Web Features

Once the basics are mastered, students dive deeper into JavaScript, applying their knowledge to create real-world projects. They learn how to build features such as contact forms, image galleries, and interactive menus. By the end of the course, IVDU students have the skills to design and develop fully functional websites.

The program is perfect for hands-on learners who are passionate about technology and construction. IVDU partners with skilled contractors to train our students in low-voltage electrical and on-site construction work. Through real job-site experience, our boys develop practical skills that prepare them for opportunities in the field.

Low-voltage electric work

IVDU students master the fundamentals of low-voltage electrical work, from tool usage to wiring systems and interpreting blueprints. By the end of the course, our boys can wire security systems, alarms, intercoms, and everything in between.

Master the tools of the trade

IVDU boys gain on-the-job experience handling drills, saws, and specialized equipment. By practicing at real job sites, they develop precision in cutting, drilling, and navigating construction sites safely and efficiently.

Wire like a pro

Our students learn the ins and outs of wiring for security systems, alarms, intercoms, and other technologies. The boys master the entire workflow, from interpreting blueprints to professional wire management.

On-site construction work

Designed for hands-on learners with strong spatial thinking, the construction training program gives our students practical experience at real building sites. In partnership with skilled contractors, our students participate in on-site projects that build construction skills and prepare them for future opportunities in the field.

Our students train alongside experienced professionals, learning essential construction techniques–such as framing, drywall installation, and basic carpentry–to equip them with real-world skills in the field

Every day, IVDU students take shifts preparing full and nourishing meals, which Bikur Cholim then distributes to the homebound.

Beyond acquiring multiple integral life skills, this program empowers our students with a true sense of purpose, allowing them to provide real value to the community’s most needy.

Nourishing the needy, nurturing independence

Menu planning
Under the guidance of a staff member, students plan nourishing meals that include a starch, vegetable, and protein.

Shopping
Students reference their recipes to create a shopping list, and then independently shop for each item, learning all about budgeting and planning along the way.

Food prep
Applying the knife, stove, and oven skills they mastered, our girls diligently cook, bake, and pack each meal with love, joy, and care.

Building tomorrow’s digital toolkit

Our digital design course helps creative IVDU boys turn their artistic talents into job-ready skills. From designing eye-catching posters and websites, students build impressive portfolios while mastering the skills that equip them for success in a wide range of fields.

Design in action

IVDU students dive into Canva, Photoshop, and Wix, applying their skills to create real projects. The boys build mock websites and design IVDU flyers to gain practical skills and create portfolios they’re proud of.
